Are you sick of the Oak Tweed Pencil Skirt on me yet? Sunday was the first time I actually wore it (the other pics were just for the blog) and I decided to try out one other Polyvore I had made for it.
Here is the Polyvore, all items are accurate (except the hairdo):
And here is my possible dud. My Boden shirtdress arrived today. I have been wanting a khaki shirtdress for awhile and once this baby went on sale for $39.99, I had to grab it. I think it was more flattering on my waistline IRL but maybe that is just wishful thinking. When I got this dress they only two colors left in my size (8 tall) so I ended up going with the taupe which isn't all that flattering on me. The cut is really well done and is right on with my measurements but this is my dilemma. It is really stiff. Like my collar kept closing back up like it was buttoned stiff .
And here is another beautiful (NOT) image. It moves with me and stays there. I lifed my arms and when I went to put them back down, it stays shifted up high on me. Which would be fine if I stood still all day but with four kids that just 'aint gonna happen. I am wondering if once I wash it it will relax and not do that but if I wash it, I can't return it. So what do you think? Keep or Return?
(notice Cooper doing a quick grab and dash with my iPhone...he is obsessed with it and steals it evey chance he gets)

Debye, I think the Shirtdress looks great on you, the colour compliments your tan. I've read online here in the UK that it does tend to relax after a wash or two. Boden have such a great returns policy, maybe speak with CS before you wash it? Have you sat down in it etc yet? If you aren't 100% certain maybe send it back and use your $40 for something you really really love once your shopping ban is over! : )
Love the action shot. do you think it might be better if you unbuttoned one and wore a lace cami or something under it? or does show too much? Did you break your shopping ban? I am feeling the pain. ;)
I think it looks fantastic, wash it, if it doesn't behave, sell it on Ebay. What shoes are you wearing with it?
It's by no means atrocious (far from it in fact), but it also is not super flattering (again, not unflattering, just not flattering). If you have doubts, I would suggest returning it. Even though the price was a steal, I do think you'll be able to find other great options, even if it takes some time. Good luck with your decision!
I would return the dress. You look amazing in the first outfit!
You look so good in so many other outfits...I just don't think this is the best....:-(
I think you should hold out for something else...
I agree with the last three ladies...I wouldn't keep it. Let me just say that you have a fabulous figure and always rock a pencil skirt(love the first outfit!), but the dress is just so so.
I would return it. For me I wouldn't take the risk of washing it in case it doesn't work, then you're stuck with a dress you'll probably never wear and $40 down the drain.
You look amazing in the shirtdress - what do you mean, taupe isn't flattering on you? It's gorgeous. BUT - and this is the important but - if it's not comfortable, return it. Maybe try CS to see if it really does soften up, but if it's not 100% comfortable, you'll hesitate anytime you think about wearing it, and then it will be a waste of $ and a waste of space in the closet. (I'm trying to live by this, too, btw.) :)
I love this on you! I ordered this in Chalk at full price, and the day it arrived they went on sale (Murphy's Law of Shopping). Boden gladly adjusted the price, and a normal person would have stopped there. I was momentarily disoriented from such gracious customer service, and went ahead and ordered the taupe and blue. I am not normally a taupe person either, but it looks cute with a white cami peeking out, and black boots and belt. As much as I think this looks gorgeous on you, the minute I start asking myself if something should go back, it usually means that it should. If you decide to keep it, I do think it is an extremely well made piece for $40., and I think it is a classic.
I love your outfit!! If you are on the fence about the dress I say take it back unless you get that 'I cannot part with you' feeling and then keep it. It's only 40 bucka-roos!
You have such a great figure that I think that shirt dress doesn't do it justice. Hard as it may be, I think I'd return it :( I think you may find cuter.
On the other hand, LOVE that skirt and am totally not sick of it.
I agree with Pamela. You look so great in everything and this shirt dress isn't the best.
Love your first outfit. Wish I didn't miss out on that cardigan :(
I have that top, what other cardigans would you pair with it--do they have to be simple?
Nope, not tired of the skirt at all - it looks FANTASTIC on you, that OOTD is really perfection!
As for the Boden dress, I'd probably return it and buy something you are 100% about instead, especially with your ban in place, this would be a "free" $40 ;)
Send it back. Spend that $40 on something you LOVE. I too, bought a shirtdress earlier this summer. Then I saw myself in pictures taken during vacation. Crap! Off it went straightaway to the Goodwill. Shirtdresses are not for me. Wrap dresses look better, but shirtdresses, nope.
I bought the same dress! Mine came today, too. I was also disappointed when I tried it on. The fabric looked much softer online. I also had the problem with the dress moving "with" me when I moved my arms up!! hah. I don't know - I really *want* to like it, but I don't think it's working on me. That being said - it looks really good on you. But, if it's not comfortable, it may not be worth it. :sigh:
PS. I recently found your blog - love it! First time poster. :-)
Hi Debye, I have the Target Merona shirtdress for $24.99. The dress comes in a green color like the one you have and it also comes in black. Maybe you'd just feel better in black than fussing w/how the green color looks on you. I agree that wearing a tank underneath for some contrast makes a world of difference. Seems to defeat the purpose of a simple button up dress, but it looks so cute w/another later. The Merona dress rises up a little bit when I put my arms overhead, but not ridiculously so. It has nice stretch, the material is comfortable and the price can't be beat. I haven't done a review of it, but I have a irl pic of it on the sidebar (right hand side) of of my blog. I'll leave it up for another day or two so you can check it out.
I feel your pain because I've been looking for the perfect khaki shirt dress too. I think this one is not the right one for you. The stiffness will ease up over time and washing, but I don't think it's going to be vastly better. I say return and keep looking. I tried the one Gigi is recommending and while it was too short for me, I thought it was a great little dress.
Hi Debye, I've been a lurker for a bit, but wanted to say that I love your blog! I just got the Oak Tweed skirt, so am loving your stylings.
I like the shirtdress on you, but if you don't love it, return it. The Target dress Gigi mentioned is really cute. Or maybe try out the Land's End Canvas one - it's on sale right now for $33 and looks adorable.
Gorgeous outfits! I love that orange color and your kitchen is beautiful!
