The Challenge Has Begun......

I will post the rest of the challenge pieces later this evening but for now, I'll jump right in with outfit number 1. This outfit actually checked two items off the list that I had yet to wear. This special occasion strapless dress from J Crew and this tie front cropped cardigan from Anthropologie, both of which were eBay finds from months and months ago.Strapless dresses are always tricky for me since I can't wear them strapless but luckily, these two pieces worked well together. I started the challenge easy so I could go into it positively but the next few pieces are going to be a little trickier!

I have a feeling that a majority of my challenge pieces are going be eBay finds. It is not that I don't get a lot of great pieces from eBay, it is just that I am often buying a piece "flying solo". To me that means 1. I am not finding the item in a store where I can try it on with other pieces to figure out an outfit in the dressing room 2. If it is not part of current line, I can't always look at how it was styled online, in the catalog, etc. It is not that the pieces are unstylable it is that sometimes (especially when they are really unique) it takes real thought to put the right ensemble together and it gets pushed back in my closet until I feel like making the time which often equals being totally forgotten about. Please tell me I am not the only one this happens to.....

I love this outfit. If I cannot put something on with the ultimate cop-out (jeans), then it sometimes takes a minute for things to get worn. Or simply never get worn. If I spend time the night prior, I'm ok and great a full look w/accessories. But if I'm putting my clothes on in the morning, I have to grab and go. These days I am picking one item the night before and know I will build an outfit around it or the next day. Now if I can select accessories to go with, I will be working all of these lovely pieces I have. I look forward to more of your challenge posts. :-)

Oooh, I do the same thing as Gigiofca (pick one piece and make it work)!

BTW, I have done the same thing...I will take something extra-"special" and make it work for my daily life. Recently I wore the silk Collection Library Doll Dress to substitute in...the effect was very similar to this outfit.

Good idea, this challenge.

P.S. Ben Folds is my all-time fave. Thank you for having his music on...

Beautiful dress! I'm trying to be better at not buying "orphan items"-items that I cannot mix and match with things I already own. Otherwise, they will sit in the closet, alone, never being worn. I love this Challenge!

This is why I don't do strapless anything

I can't make it work. Makes me look like I have double-boobs. Or uniboob.

Style on a String ..because style has nothing to do with money.

Wow - love the outfit. You look great (as usual). I think I just need to spend more time planning my outfits. I always want to shop and get new stuff instead of working with what I already have - it just seems so much easier. So, thanks for the challenge. I need to try it!

This is beautiful, it would have never crossed my mind as difficult to wear.
I have a "separate closet" in which i keep all the new stuff with tags.... stuff that i haven't worn in a long time.... hate it ! yes, it happens to us all.
